Sustainable Development Working Committee
for the Canadian Textile Industry

October 24, 2006

INVITATION TO NEW MEMBERS
The Sustainable Development Working Committee
for the Canadian Textile Industry

The Sustainable Development Working Committee for the Canadian Textile Industry sees itself as a link between the textile industry and the available resources. Its goal is to help companies:

  • Design textiles and textile applications which consume less raw materials and energy resources during production and distribution stages.
  • Design textiles, which, at their end of life, could be returned into the supply chain.
  • Design applications which would use the millions of tons of textile products which presently end up in landfill sites.

This Committee was created last April and today, after its third meeting, the founding members now wish to move on to the consolidation stage; to do this, they would like to welcome separate groups who will work together to stimulate the principles of sustainable development. This Committee is a grouping of industrial volunteers and membership is free.

At our last meeting held last September 22nd, a list of activities was decided to move the work of the Committee forward:

  1. Information sessions
  2. Surveys
  3. Seminar on sustainable development best practices
  4. Draw up a directory of all resources in sustainable development (recyclers, consultants, government representatives, possibility of subsidies, etc.)
  5. Hightex 2007 Conference
  6. Plant Tours
  7. Creation of a website which includes a follow-up of the Committee and documentation segments on sustainable development practices
