Newsletter – March 2007

EDITORIAL
A breeze of optimism

Our last communications with the industry are filled with optimism for 2007!

What stands out, once more without any doubt, is that opportunities will be created for the marketing and sales specialists. Our database contains nearly 100 candidates in this sector, but we are always on the lookout for even more specialised candidates in order to satisfy the highly technical needs of our industrial customers, and new candidates are always welcome.

This year again, technical textiles have pride of place; for those of you who are interested, step forward ! Also, in a similar vein, with green textiles or sustainable development projects, businesses will be interested in this sector and will want to develop in that sense.

We are always looking for textile technicians and we would like to get to know you better.

Our database contains over 3000 resumes and we receive at least one resume per day, and this, 365 days a year.

...........................................................................................................................................................................................

Twenty years already!
We are celebrating this year our twentieth anniversary in the recruitment of textile specialists.

Hockey Vest – Quebec businesses develop a new vest

Sport Maska, jointly with a Quebec yarn supplier and a dyer/finisher, have developed the new vest for the NHL. A new vest which, among other features, is moisture repellent and offers added ventilation - should be confortable !! I am sure this will enhance the player's performance; that's « New Textile », at last !

I, personally, am a squash player and I was looking for « the » confortable jersey, I found it. It's not the salesmen's advice that's missing, it's their lack of knowledge of the new fibres, the construction of yarns and knit fabrics. Maybe we should send them to our technical textile courses in St-Hyacinthe – we wouldn't have to enrol foreign students to fill our classes...

Green Textiles... the way to success!

Again, Victor Innovatex is quoted in the newspaper « Les Affaires » of February 3rd concerning their ecologically sustainable fabrics. There again, that's the « New Textile ». Using the technical knowledge of our people to distinguish oneself and achieve market breakthroughs with the result that these products open the door to new orders for the company.

China... some discontent?

China once more, but it seems that there is discontent. We are told that certain Chinese companies, after receiving firm orders, have raised their prices twice during the same year ; delivery is more or less regular, and quality could be better. Many comments to this effect but I have not been able to check the truthfulness of these facts.

Our sources in China indicate that salaries are very low but tend to increase ; they are still working 7 days a week. Canadians are also doing more and more business with Vietnam or other Asian countries. One could fill a book with all kinds of these comments.

Ontario – TSC & CATCC merge, quite a success

Some encouraging news ! The merge of the TSC (Textile Society of Canada) and the CATCC (Canadian Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists) is quite a success according to our reporter. The two are now grouped under the CTA (Canadian Textile Association) and a few new members have already joined. The next AGM in Niagara Falls will welcome 84 people ; a few years back, we were 15 at this meeting. Hello to all of you in Ontario!

« An Innovative, Prosperous Québec » - tax credit on R & D salaries

End of 2006, the Québec government launched its new research and innovation strategy. One of the most important innovation support programs is the tax credit on the R & D salaries. Combined with the SR & ED (Scientific Research and Experimental Development) at the federal level, a small or medium size innovating company could obtain up to 82% of its R & D salaries in refundable tax credits. In its new strategy, the Québec government expands the definition of small or medium size company by increasing the taxable capital ceiling from 25 to 50M$, which will allow more companies to fully benefit from this program.

If you would like more information on these R & D tax credit programs, you can contact Vincent Frégeac at (514) 931-0166 ext. 116.

Morocco – in search of our Canadian Textile Consultants

A Moroccan company, wanting to produce textile products at a very low price, as in China, is asking for our assistance by supplying them with unrivalled and very pragmatic Canadian consultants, which we can do easily. In fact, Canadians are recognized worldwide for their organizing abilities, going straight to the point, and also for their effectiveness. Also, the consultants we suggest know their textile very well and we are convinced that they will brilliantly succeed.

Last minute news... from China once again!

We have just heard from one of our sources who moved from Montreal to Shanghai in 2004. From General Manager of a textile multinational, he has recently been appointed President of an American company, in a completely different sector. Our friend is well settled with his family in China and his career is progressing very well. Congratulations!
