Our manufacturers got organized...
here is the "Table de Concertation Textile du Québec (T.C.T.Q.)"
Yes, this task force really exists and to learn about its goals and activities and to answer many questions which people frequently ask us, please read the attached text by clicking here >>
It stems from the study "The New Textile Economy in Quebec", which was realized by Groupe Textile and other associated consultants; approximately 19 members meet periodically to progress on various subjects brought to this "table". Groupe Textile participates diligently and I can assure you that the work is moving on very positively. I will try, as the meetings are held, to complete the information which you will be receiving through the usual communiqués.
One of the subjects which particularly worries me is the valuation of the textile industry in our country. In fact, the objective is to hire a specialized firm for a period of three years, its goal being to standardize the textile information coming from the medias, the information going to the members of Parliament and Ministers to restore the textile industry's reputation and to receive information, other than negative, on OUR industry. Bankers will therefore get a more positive image, and students who are not registering in textiles courses will see encouraging arguments to choose textile to pursue their education. You understand that something needs to be done and it is needless to start a demonstration here, don't you think?
We will get back to you with new developments. Keep on asking us questions and giving us your opinion. We will gladly represent you at this table.
We invite you to read our September 2003 newsletter to better understand the origin of the "Table de Concertation".
"The new textile economy in Quebec"... Conclusions available on request
It's in a context of market globalization, equipment automation, and high pressure on prices that the Quebec manufacturers must take a turn to ensure its growth and its continuity.
From textile markets identified beforehand as being growth carriers worldwide, from 12 value-added technical textile segments, 5 specific segments were identified as being the keystones for our industry. Context, markets, industry analysis, world growth, evaluation of Canadian statistics, and expert opinions brought us to these conclusions. Furthermore, a method to quickly access these segments will be available soon on request to take action rapidly.
It was in June 2002 that the first progress report on this study was delivered to our institutional partners: Hydro Québec, the "Ministère de l'Industrie et du Commerce du Québec", "Investissement Québec" and the S.G.F. ("Société générale de financement").
China Mission... Another initiative from the T.C.T.Q.
It was a real success! The objective being to sell value-added technical textiles to China, and many succeeded. You read and heard many comments on China but I would add that I was surprised by the Chinese organisation and energy put forth in their industries and associations. We, at Groupe Textile along with our Chinese accomplices with whom we have been working for almost two years now, had organized meetings with ten manufacturers or so from the Shandong province. During two days, we shared with them our common goals and yearnings. Four projects are now on the way. I invite you to contact us, if you wish, and tell us of your aspirations with regards to this immense market. Negociating strategies and ways to develop contacts were taught to us, and yes, this market is accessible. Of course, we don't have all the answers but we know now where and how to look. Gate Mode Textile
The study itself is finished and the results are positive. A meeting between the participating manufacturers will be held next November 23rd. If we base ourselves on the quantity of messages received from the participants to date, it seems that the experience is conclusive and we should maybe think of renewing it; let's wait and see! First there will be the matchmaking meeting and then we will discuss the results. You probably remember the Futurallia experience in France, with meetings between industries of all continents and countries, well "Gate Mode" is similar except that it is between textile manufacturers and garment manufacturers in Quebec,... to date.
